Blake’s Dapper School Queer Look

I really love it when people put green and blue together. It’s so unexpected and a pretty combo. Also love her glasses. I highly recommend this outfit to anyone too tired to show up to class on monday morning. Picks ya right up.

Coats, Parkas, Jackets, Queers

Lots of people have been asking about winter coats, and after much browsing, I’m ready to deliver my top picks. My favorite thing about winter coats is it that they will so easily sculpt your body into the shape you’re looking for; like if you want a more androgynous shape, or wider shoulders. Or in my case, big guns.

Vila Sky Parka Jacket, available at littlewoods.com for $137

Element Ballard Jacket, available at PacSun for $99.50

Guess Asymmetrical Collar Bouclé Coat, available at Nordstrom for $149.90

Puffa Jacket With Front Pockets, available at ASOS for $140.70

Navy Toggle Duffle Coat, available at Burton Menswear for $137. See the same coat for women here.

Topshop ‘Tex’ Bouclé Coat, available at Nordstrom for $178.00

Jacket, available at H&M for $49.95

Single Breast Coat available at Tule for $49.00

Womens Puffer Jacket w/faux fur hood, available at True Religion for$398. I just love this picture. Similar styles at ASOS for $73.88

Guess Jeans Jacket, Hooded Chromatic Puffer Jacket, available at Macy’s for $148.00

The Casual Blazer

Anonymous asked: I’ve been wanting to incorporate blazers into my wardrobe, but I’m just not sure how to and I want to be able to on an everyday setting. Any tips? Thanks :)

I mean, we can always reread the article I wrote for Diva about blazers. They can pretty much go with anything; all kinds of T-shirts, polos, dresses, hoodies, blouses, jeans. Here is some blazered outfit inspiration:

It can be really fun to put them over printed Tees like this and step up the outfit. (source: aliexpress.com)

Your Color Palettes

Anonymous asked: My friends and family always make fun of me for matching colors. It is true i do tend to match color alot to the point where i even color co-ordinate my underwear lol. But i don’t know how to clash colors successfully :/ How can i pick items that go together without having to worry about how the colors match?

A.D. says:
Have you ever seen color swatches? Or “palettes?” If you haven’t, they’re collections of colors across the spectrum that go well together. With clothes, palettes get even more interesting because there are layers and textures. The deal is finding palettes that you like; these can range from 2 colors (pink and blue) or many (like dark blue, light blue, coral, forest green, light green, mustard, etc.). The important thing with color and clothing is remembering the visual statement that a given outfit gives. Your outfit shouldn’t say, “I know my colors and I can match!” Your outfit should be a reflection of you. It should convey your unique sense of self. Pick items that reflect you and work well together. Start with the “palette” and see where it takes you!

Sonia says:

Check out the website Color Scheme Designer. It automatically creates color palettes.  You can play around with it and get ideas for color schemes. Then just observe outfits you like and take note of the colors, shades, and materials. And think about why it works. Also, don’t be afraid to take risks!

This outfit makes use of the complimentary colors blue and orange. (source: onemanstyle.com)

This outfit uses colors that are close together  blue and green  and then adds a dash of yellow as a highlight color. (source: 22g.tumblr.com)

Slim/Fitted Petite Pants

Anonymous asked: Hi! I’m pretty short (4’11”) and want to find straight slim/fitted but not skinny pants for the fall. My height eliminates the possibility of shopping from men’s (unless I just haven’t looked hard enough) and all the womens’/petites’ pants are either boot cut or skinny. Is there any possibility of me finding pants with the fit I want? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

A.D. says: You’re in luck. Go to J.Crew or Banana Republic. Both have slim straight pants in womens that are awesome. If that doesn’t work, have you tried the boys’ section? I hate to suggest such a thing, but pants for them could work for you.

Bennet Chino, available at J. Crew for $79.50

Broken-in straight cords, available at Banana Republic for $49.95

Corduroy Pants, available at H&M Boys for $24.95

Sonia says:

Very similar to the ones at Banana Republic, Gap has some Broken-in straight khakis that are in a boy fit. I fucking love them. I just bought 3 pairs.

Broken-in straight khakis, available at Gap for $41.99 (Prices vary depending on color) 25% off through 9/9

Also, tailoring is always an option for men’s pants that are too long, or women’s pants that you want less tapered. Check out Blake’s pants tailoring tips. She wrote them about plus sizes in particular, but the same rule would apply to anyone.

Army Green Shorts Outfit

Anonymous asked: Hey I just bought some really cool shorts from Gap. They’re denim but are a sort of khaki/army green color. I believe the tag called it ash. They fit about to my knee and I was just wondering if you had any tips on what would be super awesome to wear them with.

Mandy says: You can wear these shorts with just about ANYTHING, except for the same color. I think off-color denim shorts look really good with a white button down, but I could definitely see this outfit working with a patterned or textured shirt (like madras, gingham, linen, or chambray). I prefer to dress up shorts with oxfords/brogues/loafers, but I also love shorts with low-top Converse All-Stars.

Pair these shorts with some jewelry and a blazer, and you’re set to grab drinks with friends (or grab coffee with that cutie…!)

Short Sleeve Block Stripe Oxford Shirt, on sale at ASOS for $18.23

Mens leather multi strand adjustable bracelets, available on Etsy for $18.50

I couldn’t find those exact shorts at the Gap website. The closest I could find were the Bedford Shorts in Gasoline Green.

Sebago Sherman Loafers, available at Infinity Shoes for $99

Boi Bags

Just the word “purse” makes me turn green… and I’ve been known to grow faint while walking through the Macy’s handbags section (So many tasteless patterns and fake gold buckles and satin bows… I mean who thinks that’s a good idea?) How so many cismen manage to carry all their things without a bag, I don’t know. But times have changed since Joey Tribbiani’s unisex bag cost him a job (or god forbid, made him look gay.) Here are my favorite dapper selections to fulfill your carrying needs without having to endure any purse section trauma:

Canvas Satchel, available at ASOS for $24.86

Satchel Messenger Bag made from upcycled Truck Tarpaulins, available on Etsy for ~$73

Vintage Army Medic Messenger Bag with Medic Cross, available at harrysarmysurplus.net for $19.99

Grey Stars and Stripes Barrel Bag, available at Topman for $56

Orange duffle bag, available at Owen & Fred for $129

Olive Lunch Tote, available at  Artifact Bag Co. for $65

Green Dunlop Stripe Bag, available at Topman for $48

Fred Perry Deconstructed holdall, available at ASOS for $107.71

The striped tote, available at Everlane for $35

Paul Smith Jeans Nylon Tote Bag, available at ASOS for $217.44

(Whyyyyyy???)

It’s Party Time: Outfit for Pride

Anonymous asked: Hey! So I am going to my very first pride parade/bloc party this year in Bmore and DC, but I have no idea to wear. I’ve recently been wearing more androgynous type of clothing and I’m going to get my hair cut even shorter this week (burst of confidence recently I guess). Any suggestions on fun clothing for pride?

Put that burst of confidence towards trying something you’ve been dreaming of wearing but didn’t have the uteru to put on until the biggest gay party of the year! Pride is about having fun, celebrating your identity, and partying with the queers. Some ideas to get the ball rolling:

‘Sparrow’ Sunglasses, available at Farfetch.com for $219

Allure the other queers with your love for alternative wheels. 4TN T-Shirt Let Spin on sale at ASOS for $26.09

Silver and Rainbow Enamel Love Tags, available at Love & Pride for $75

Flat Hunting Belt in Orange, available at Modcloth for $13.99

Denim Shorts In Green, available at ASOS for $38.27

The casual tag holds more eye candy!
