Bloodbath Studio’s METANOIA Brought the Queer Fashion Experience to Austin

Last weekend, Austin-based production company Bloodbath Studio presented METANOIA for a two-night event showcasing the visionary creations of LGBTQ+ designers and artists, each weaving the concept of rebirth into their work.

Taking place at the Central Presbyterian Church, the event included a short film screening, a couture fashion show showcasing collections by queer designers who challenge traditional norms, and live music and performances: a lineup of boundary-breaking artists, including electronic performance art, a cello-infused soundscape, and harmonious choral elements. The fashion designers featured were DASHE, ALIVE BY BENJAMIN, FLAMER, Melanie Alva, Prior Waste, and Sommestella.

The theme of METANOIA—meaning profound transformation—resonated deeply throughout the event. Each featured designer and performer brought a unique interpretation of the concept, with creations crafted from unconventional materials such as leather, silk, chain, metal, and even human hair.

Outfits featured a mix of styles such as sleek, avant-gaurde, medieval, futuristic, weaving in queer elements and performance. Co-producer and designer Dashe decked models with delicate feathers extending from the eyelashes and eyebrows. One wore a sculptural garment crafted from luminous blonde human hair, cascading gracefully while forming structured shoulders and braided details along the front. Models across the gender spectrum were tattooed, made up, and glamorous. It was definitely a whole vibe.

Bloodbath Studio is an Austin-based production house dedicated to elevating inclusivity in the film and fashion industries. By centering the voices of artists, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ creators, Bloodbath Studio fosters a creative process and leadership structure that provides underrepresented talents with the infrastructure to showcase their work and thrive in their industries.

At the core of its mission, Bloodbath Studio is committed to empowering artists with access and autonomy in the presentation and publication of their work, ensuring authentic representation of their artistic identities.
