Qwear Anoints Mojo Disco as The Queen of The Trans Revolution

I am so very proud and humbled to know Mojo Disco. She is a constant, a shining star in the universe that refuses to be defined by averous and mainstream vices. Over the years, as I’ve shaped and molded Qwear to include more POC voices, I find myself thanking the powers that be for bringing Mojo Disco’s voice into the Qwear community. Watch this video, titled “Lady Shot.” It will inspire you to live your true self. Thank you, Mojo.

Mojo’s statement:

So often, the message of being black, trans, and woman is based on how real you are. Realness is not only a ballroom category — it is a way of life that affords safety to many black trans women. Being able to "pass" in society is essentially life or death for many within the community. This short film was made to highlight the reality of realness and the joy and pain that comes with it.

Ru

As Qwear’s Fashion Director, Ru seeks to dismantle preconceived notions of gender expression and explore the identity constructs of queer fashion. Ru’s goal is to provide a platform for the community to share their stories with the aim of demystifying the borders of queer fashion and reinforcing queering fashion as an intimate experience closely related to one’s individuality.

Hailing from Scotland, with Trinidadian roots, this veteran designer and activist has immersed herself in queer theory and fashion for nearly a decade. A graduate of Rhode Island School Of Design, Ru merges their knowledge of queer theory and critical race theory with their passion for fashion. Recently, Ru’s work has been presented at Queer Fashion Week (2015), Rainbow Fashion Week (2015), The Institute Of Contemporary Art, Boston (2016 & 2017), and BU Art Galleries (2018).
